What is stamp duty in Australia?
Stamp duty (officially called transfer duty in most states) is a state government tax charged when you buy property. It is one of the largest upfront costs of buying a home, often ranging from 3% to 6% of the purchase price.
First home buyer concessions by state (2025–26)
